Graduation Process 

The graduation process takes approximately three months in total and is completed according to the four sessions of each academic year.



Instructions For Graduation

 

Step 1:  Requirements – Ensure that you have completed ALL these requirements before moving onto step 2.

  • CGA Courses Requirement – you have successfully completed all courses in your Program Sequence (review your Program Sequence to confirm any outstanding courses).
  • Degree Requirement – you have completed a Canadian Bachelors Degree (or equivalent) and have had your degree recorded with CGA-BC.  If you have not done so, please complete the Request for Degree Completion form for submission as soon as possible.
  • Professional Experience Required for Certification (PERC) – you have successfully completed the professional experience requirement and have received an approval letter from the Association.  Your approval letter should contain the following wording:

    ‘We are pleased to advise that your experience meets the Association’s requirements for graduation.’
    If you have not completed your PERC, please refer to the ‘Professional Experience’ section on our website.
  • Tuition Fees – you have paid your tuition fee for the current academic year.  You must be an active student in the current academic year to graduate.  You may not be enrolled as a non active student in the current academic year.

Step 2:  Forms – Once you have met the above requirements identified in Step 1, please complete the Application for Membership form and submit to the attention of Cindy James using only one of the following methods below:

  1. By E-mail to Cindy James.
  2. By Fax to 604-732-9439.
  3. By Mail to the Association – CGA-BC, #300 – 1867 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC, V6J 5L4

Your application for membership must be received by the Association prior to the Graduation Application Deadline.  Your application for membership is normally due one week after the session marks are released. Application forms received after the deadline will be held and processed in the following session. 

Please keep a photocopy of your application for membership form for your own records.

Step 3:  Confirmation – After the Association has received your application for membership, you will receive an e-mail confirmation within 5 working days. 

Step 4:  Member Application Process – Your application for membership will be reviewed and forwarded for approval within approximately four weeks of the Graduation Application Deadline.  On the approval date, you will receive your member dues notification by e-mail and must pay your member dues within five days.

Step 5.  Membership DuesAfter you have been approved and have paid your member dues, you will be accepted as a CGA member. Within two weeks of your acceptance and after payment of your member dues, you will receive a membership confirmation package by e-mail, from Pamela Skinner, CGA, Director, Member Services, confirming that you have obtained your Certified General Accountant (CGA) designation. This email will provide you with a link to the electronic New Member Package. It is at this point where you are eligible to use your CGA designation behind your name.
To make your first year and your ongoing CGA membership a success, it is your obligation to read and understand the information provided in the electronic New Member Package. Online confirmation that you've read all the information is required.

Certificates confirming your CGA Membership will be mailed to you within six to eight weeks after your acceptance date.
