The Certified General Accountants Association of Ontario has received the authority to license Certified General Accountants (CGAs) to practise public accounting in the province. Public accounting involves providing independent audits or review services of an entity’s financial statements and other financial information to ensure they are fair and reasonable so that a third party will be able to rely on them. The Certified General Accountants of Ontario and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario are the only two accounting bodies in the province authorized to license their members to practise public accounting.
Lori A. Mathison, CGA, was featured in the National Post’s recent ‘Legal Post: Guide To Leading Lawyers In Vancouver.’ As a key partner in the Tax Group in the Vancouver office at Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP, Ms. Mathison provides specialized tax advice to assist clients with domestic and cross-border transactions. As a Certified General Accountant she is able to combine her practical accounting knowledge with her skills as a tax lawyer.

Ed Kroft, CGA (Hon.) has joined Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP as a Partner in the firm’s Tax Group and leader of its Tax Controversy & Litigation Group. Mr. Kroft is one of Canada’s pre-eminent tax lawyers, a popular speaker for CGA-BC and a regular contributor to Outlook, where he writes the ‘TaxMatters’ column.
Lori Lui, CGA, is now Associate Partner, Tax Services, on the Human Resource Services team at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Ms. Lui has extensive experience helping companies plan and manage national and international employee assignments, and she specializes in personal income tax compliance and related tax planning matters, particularly in a cross-border context.
Kenneth MacDougall, CGA, has retired and now lives in Cusco, Peru.
Westminster Savings Credit Union announces the appointment of Ross Montgomery, CGA, as chairman of the credit union's board of directors. Mr. Montgomery has more than 30 years of experience in the high technology, financial services and public service industries. He was previously CEO at CUE Datawest Ltd.
