Our Software Support Staff
Answer your Questions
In the world of online education, it’s almost 100 per cent certain that you will encounter a software issue at some point! Sometimes it can be as simple as forgetting your password. Other times, the Blackboard Online Learning Environment (OLE) system or other software might display an error message that seems downright mysterious.
Rajvinder Saran and Kathy Caldwell are two CGA-BC staff members dedicated to helping students resolve technical and software issues, whether it's a problem with accessing grades or simply finding information on www.cga-bc.org. Here are the answers to the most common questions.
Q: I keep getting error messages while installing my CGA software (ACCPAC, ACL, CANTAX and CaseWare). What should I do?
A: There are a number of workarounds we can discuss with you over the phone or by email. With Windows Vista, for example, some files will need to be reloaded. We can also help you navigate the software once it is correctly installed.
Q: I need to log in to the My CGA-BC website or the OLE system as soon as possible, but I forgot my password!
A: This is the most common request we get from students. Don’t be shy, as we can quickly help you out.
Q: I’m trying to upload an assignment to the OLE system, but I can’t seem to make it work.
A: As of September, all CGA courses are deployed through OLE and we have many tips and hints to assist you as you learn the new system.
Q: Assignment marks and exam results are supposed to be available online but I can’t find them.
A: Connect to the My CGA-BC website at www.cga-bc.org under the Students tab or go to the following link: www.cga-bc.org/students.aspx?id=46 to check your exam marks. If you are still having trouble, simply contact us by phone or email and we will walk you through it.
Q: So I can contact you either by email or phone?
A: Yes, whichever you prefer. Keep in mind that Rajvinder is available during weekday business hours and that Kathy provides support five evenings a week (Sunday to Thursday). If your question is urgent, be sure to contact the person scheduled to be available at that time.
Q: I want to buy a new computer. Are there any compatibility issues I should know about?
A: Computers that use a 64-bit system are not compatible with the CGA program software. Rajvinder can provide you with a checklist of compatibility issues to watch for (also see website). Members are also advised to follow these guidelines when buying a new computer so that they won’t experience compatibility issues if they take a course with CGA.
Q: When I become a fully certified member and I’m no longer a student, can I continue to contact you for technical support?
A: Yes. When you become designated a member of CGA-BC, you will continue using the CGA-BC website (www.cga-bc.org) to pay membership dues and track CPD hours. We’re always here to help if you need it.
Q: What other kinds of issues can you help resolve?
A: Other commonly asked questions include: how to contact your marker; what to do if a quiz times out before you have completed it; and what to do if you submitted the wrong assignment.
