The CGA-BC Mentor Program
The Need
Many highly educated and qualified newcomers to Canada struggle to find appropriate employment because they need to learn to adapt to Canadian business culture. Your Association has joined forces with an immigrant services provider to help newcomer CGAs and CGA students make their way in their adopted homeland.

Through Immigrant Services Society of BC’s (ISSofBC) Mentoring Connections services, CGA students/members who are new to B.C. will be matched with CGA students/members who are thoroughly familiar with working in accounting and finance positions in Canada.

How Mentors Help
Under this program, mentors will assist mentees in the following ways:

  • Provide mentees with an understanding of the Canadian workplace and culture
  • Assist in identifying the professional and technical skills required by the mentee to meet market demands
  • Assist the mentee with improving their self-marketing techniques and confidence

Mentors are not expected to:

  • Provide the mentee with a job or find a job for the mentee
  • Provide course tutoring services to the mentee
Looking for a Mentor?

If you are new to B.C. and the Canadian workplace, have Permanent Resident status and are a CGA student or member you may be eligible to be matched with a mentor. This is superb chance to gain one-on-one assistance as well as insight and confidence as you make your way in the classroom, the office and your career.
