CGA-BC Elects Second Vice-President

The Certified General Accountants Association of British Columbia is pleased to announce that Bruce Hurst, FP, FCGA, was elected Second Vice-President by the CGA-BC Board of Governors on June 20, 2009. He now joins the CGA-BC executive.

Mr. Hurst is a Director and Shareholder with the public practice firm of Reid Hurst Nagy Inc. He has been with the Richmond-based firm for more than 28 years. He earned his CGA designation in 1982 and he was first elected to the CGA-BC Board in September 2006. In 2005 he received the Harold Clarke Award for outstanding service to the community, his Association and to the profession.

Mr. Hurst has sat on several CGA committees and advisory groups since 1988, including the Public Practice Advisory Group, and the Ethics, Discipline and Practice Review committees. Currently, he is chair of the Association’s Finance Committee and a member of the Audit Committee, which he chaired in 2008. Since 1995 he has served as an appointed representative to the Technical Advisory Group (sponsored by the Aboriginal Financial Officers Association of BC). He also holds the Certified Financial Planner designation and has been a member of the Financial Planners Standards Council since 1999.

As the province’s largest professional accounting association, CGA-BC represents more than 14,000 CGAs and students. Members work in industry, commerce, government and in public practice. The Association promotes the excellence of its members and advances the accounting profession through education, certification and the protection of the public interest.
