Sylvie Voghel Named 2008 John Leslie Award Winner
(Vancouver, October 31, 2008) — The Certified General Accountants Association of Canada (CGA-Canada) is pleased to announce that Sylvie Voghel, B.Sc., FCGA, is the recipient of the John Leslie Award for 2008.
The John Leslie Award, named after CGA-Canada’s founder and first president, is given to a CGA who has achieved national recognition for exceptional service to business, the community, politics, or the arts, or who has overcome physical adversity.
Sylvie Voghel has enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a Certified General Accountant, beginning with her CGA designation in 1978. She has held numerous executive positions within national and international industry bodies, including serving as President of the Ordre des CGA du Québec from 1995 to 1996 and as CGA-Canada Board Chair from 1999-2000.
In addition to her many board activities, she is also a partner and Vice-President of Finance and Administration of a privately held Quebec corporation, Enveloppe Concept.
“Sylvie’s breadth of experience, combined with her dedication to domestic and international affairs as a CGA exemplify the unique characteristics and professionalism of the CGA designation, of which our membership is truly proud,” said Anthony Ariganello, FCGA, President and CEO of CGA-Canada.
Prior to her current entrepreneurial career, Voghel was a member of the senior management team of Hydro Quebec. After assuming partnership of Enveloppe Concepts in 1998, she served on the Board of Directors of the Federation internationale des experts-comptables francophones until 2000. From 2000 to 2003 she served as a Technical Advisor to the Board of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).
Since 2003, she has been a member of the IFAC Board of Directors, and among her numerous IFAC Board activities, she has chaired the IFAC Small and Medium Practices Committee since 2006. Active in regrouping the accounting profession within Latin and European countries, Voghel is also involved in several academic, professional and other volunteer boards and committees.
