Use of CGA Materials in Post Secondary Institution Courses
CGA-BC makes many of its course materials available to post secondary institutions:

  • Course CDs, including module notes
  • Business cases in hardcopy
  • The software to support the business cases
  • Instructional support materials
  • The Ethics Reading Handbook CD
  • Model Financial Standards CD.
These materials can be ordered by contacting [jchang#cga-bc,org]Jenny Chang, Manager, Education. Textbooks can be ordered directly through the publisher.

Course delivery standard requirements
Before making CGA course materials available, CGA-BC and the post secondary institution enter into a Letter of Understanding that includes course delivery standard requirements. These requirements ensure that CGA’s courses are being delivered at the same high standards students receive when taking the courses directly through CGA.

The Letter of Understanding generally, but not always, includes the following course delivery standard requirements. The post secondary institution will ensure that:

  • Registration in the individual courses is consistent with CGA requirements.
  • CGAs are initially selected as instructors for these courses. Holders of other accounting designations or similar educational background will be considered if a suitable instructor holding the CGA designation is not available. Selection of instructors for CGA courses must follow similar guidelines used for selecting instructors for their financial management program.
  • The content requirements defined in the CGA Module Notes are adhered to and that the assignments as defined in these courses are used.
  • It develops outlines for these courses in the same manner and style as used in their financial management program. These should be reviewed four weeks prior to the start of each course.
  • A midterm (optional) and final exams for the CGA courses are developed and these must be kept available should CGA wish to review them. Prior exams are included on each CGA course CD for guidance.
  • It provides students with credits for its CGA-approved courses as set out by CGA-BC.
  • A certain percentage (usually 70 per cent) of the courses’ final grades will come from a combination of mid-terms and the final exam as outlined in advance by CGA-BC.
  • The minimum final grade allowing for CGA transferability is that outlined in the letter of understanding (usually C+).
